Bad News and Good News

Posted on April 26, 2010 at 10:47 PM

Unfortunately, our team's entry for the NZFC's "Escalator" project was not short listed. I must admit to feeling a bit dejected. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful experience to meet as a team, to develop ideas collectively and to practice writing the dreaded 'one-page synopsis'. Good things must surely follow.

On a brighter note: Under the  "Other Writings" tab you will find links to my latest short story, "Devolution of the Wolfman" and a reproduction of the radio broadcast on Good News Community Radio, which aired today.

Community Radio

Yesterday I was invited to Rotorua's 'Community Radio' to pre-record the reading of a couple of my short stories - "Devolution of the Wolfman" & "Curtain Falls". The monthly show, which features members of the Rotorua Writer's Group, will air on Tuesday 27th April, at midday. For those of you who live in Rotorua its on 104.7FM. For those further afield, I hope to get a copy and post it on my website in the near future.

All said, an enjoyable, if somewhat nerve-wracking experience!

Escalator, Possessions

Posted on March 3, 2010 at 11:39 PM

I've formed a team with three other people and we're currently working on three feature film ideas as our entries for the New Zealand Film Commission's new "ESCALATOR" project. This aims to develop home grown talent in filmmaking. It's emphasis is on low-budget films. It's great to be collaborating with other creative people!

Also: I've finally re-written my screenplay "Possessions" which can be read on this website (and is found under the 'Screenplays' tab).

Other writings

I've introduced a new tab on my website. My intention is to include here anything I may write that isn't a screenplay - for example, short stories, poems, etc..

Video Editing Suite

Posted on November 6, 2009 at 2:03 AM

We're back in New Zealand and I've got my new video editing suite partly set up. It's a small room in our garage that was previously used for storing our furniture while overseas. I need to put JIB board on the interior wall, decorate it and, most importantly, purchase an office chair (a comfy one for long hours of writing and video editing). On the door, I think I'll put stensil "D.G. Productions" and perhaps a nickname for my suite, "The Dungeon".

Returning to NZ

Posted on September 16, 2009 at 4:58 PM

Several projects have been "simmering away" in my mind for a little while. In case you hadn't heard, on the 31st October Amy and I return to New Zealand, having had twenty-one months of living overseas. Once settled, it's time to put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard. It's time to bring my video camera out of storage and unpack my computer. It's time to get busy.....
